How We Vet

Our selection criteria and the standards that guide our recommendations.

Who Runs This

Sampling Office has spent over a decade researching and evaluating environmental remediation providers across New England. We employ a rigorous vetting process that goes beyond license verification to assess technical competency, quality consistency, and client outcomes. Our team includes environmental professionals who understand the technical requirements of water damage restoration, fire damage recovery, and mold remediation at a level that most directory curators do not. When we recommend a provider, we have personally evaluated their certifications, reviewed their track record, and confirmed their adherence to industry standards through multiple verification methods. This level of scrutiny exists because our reputation depends entirely on the reliability of our recommendations.

Our Standards, Stated Plainly

Below are the key criteria we apply to every provider in our directory. Restoration work is technical and consequential, so our standards are equally specific.

Credentials & Certifications

Restoration technicians we recommend are trained to IICRC standards, the ANSI-accredited body for the cleaning and restoration industry. IICRC certification demonstrates mastery of structural drying, water damage assessment, and restoration protocols. We verify current certification status against the IICRC registry and require ongoing education credentials.

Mold Remediation Standards

Mold-related work is reviewed against the EPA's guide to mold, moisture, and your home. We verify that providers follow federal EPA containment and air quality protocols, include post-remediation verification through certified mold inspection, and maintain documentation of all work performed. Improper mold remediation creates liability, so we evaluate this category with particular rigor.

Emergency Response Capability

Water damage and fire damage require immediate response to prevent secondary damage and mold growth. We verify that recommended providers maintain 24/7 emergency dispatch, arrive on-site within four hours of initial contact in our service area, and deploy mitigation equipment within the first business day. Response time is a technical requirement, not a courtesy.

Equipment & Technology

Professional-grade restoration requires specific equipment for dehumidification, air scrubbing, water extraction, and structural monitoring. We verify that providers maintain current inventory of certified equipment, invest in monitoring technology like moisture mapping and thermal imaging, and keep documentation of equipment calibration and maintenance. Equipment shortages during peak seasons disqualify providers.

Verification in Practice

Our vetting process begins with credential verification but does not stop there. We conduct follow-up interviews with restoration companies to assess their understanding of technical protocols, their track record with difficult jobs, and their handling of insurance coordination and customer communication. We review sample documentation from past projects, verify licensing status with state environmental agencies, and cross-reference insurance company performance data. For providers we list, we maintain ongoing monitoring through periodic re-verification, customer feedback collection, and industry publication tracking. If a provider's credentials lapse or we receive consistent negative feedback, they are removed from the directory. This is maintenance work, not a one-time audit.

Why This Matters

Water damage, fire damage, and mold remediation are not discretionary decisions. Properties are at risk, homeowners are often in crisis, and poor remediation creates long-term structural and health consequences. Our vetting process exists to ensure that when a property owner uses our directory to find help, they are making contact with a company that can actually solve the problem to professional standards. We take that responsibility seriously.
